Before I started this blog, there were still lots of super interesting things that came up in the chats, so this week I thought I'd write about some of the things I learnt from long ago conversations!
1. This has the ringing of an old joke - an American, a Canadian and an Australian walk into a bar... Nope, not a bar this time, just a DinnerTalk chat! And they CANNOT come to a consensus on what the word 'jumper' means. To the American, it was a type of onesie (found and modeled in the chat), to the Canadian, it was a type of dress (shown to the group from an online catalogue), and to the Australian it was a sweater (that she'd been presently wearing)! Are there any words you've come across in your travels that have more than two meanings?
2. Wild possum fur can be blended with merino or other fibers to make really warm clothing! And New Zealand wild possum fur is considered ethically sourced and sustainable because it isn't a native species, though in Australia possums are a protected species. If you're curious, www.ecowool.com has lots of possum products, and more information about the possum fur trade.
3. There is only one road into Gibraltar, and the airport runway crosses that road. (I highly recommend searching this on Google Maps for a visual!) So when planes are coming and going, the highway is closed. I guess in this situation it is best to give yourself lots of time to get to the airport, because you don't want to get stuck on the wrong side of the runway when the highway is closed!
'Till next week!
