Ketchup, Winners, and Ottolenghi... How do we get on such random topics in the DinnerTalk chats?!
1. Do you keep ketchup in the fridge or pantry? The common answer is likely fridge, but then think about how restaurants keep it on the table... Upon a bit of digging, here is the official verdict:
"Because of its natural acidity, Heinz® Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening."
2. From these chats, I'm starting to realize how different Canada and the US are from a retail perspective. Winners is a store unique to Canada, yet because I see it in every city, I had just assumed that it was in the US as well. But it isn't, like Target isn't in Canada. (Though they did attempt to enter the Canadian market, but it didn't go so well. For the full cringeworthy read, you can check it out here.)
3. If you're up to date in the culinary world, the name Ottolenghi is probably familiar to you. However, if you're not in touch with the modern culinary world (like me!), his cookbook, Simple, is currently a big hit, promising recipes that are, "made in 30 minutes or less, with 10 or fewer ingredients, in a single pot, using pantry staples, or prepared ahead of time". Enjoy!
'til next week!
