3 things I learnt (Feb. 8)

Warning - if you are feeling a bit hungry for fried foods, yet are avoiding them, this week's post isn't for you! I had to get a bag of chips just in order to complete writing it :)

1. For those that know me (both in person and through DinnerTalk), my love of potato chips and French Fries is very well known and laughed at! I would eat them with every meal (or as a meal) if I could. Yet this week I was flabbergasted to learn about the UK's 'Chip Butty' sandwich. It is literally a handful of French Fries (or 'chips' as they are known in the UK) between two pieces of white bread, or in a bun. You can eat it with condiments too - but the essence is chips and bread! Here is a link to Google Images. So naturally, the Chip Butty is what prompted this week's question, 'what is the most unusual or interesting sandwich you've ever had?'!

2. And further on the topic of interesting foods, I learnt about the Wisconsin Deep Fried Cheese Curds, which are a mid-west US thing. Here is a link to Google Images. Part of me is leery about trying them - we hear so much about the dangers of high cholesterol foods here in the west, but I am SO curious! One day :) It can't be too different from mozzarella sticks, from a health perspective, can it?!

3. Now to a non-food related point. Did you know that the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, Canada has a lift right in the middle of the main aisle?! The picture on the main blog page shows it while raised. We speculated in the chat that it was to move objects that couldn't make it through the front door, but again, that was a speculation. If you know the real reason, feel free to let me know!

'til next week!
